Tema: Recent Progress & Development of SiC-based Ceramic Material for Structural Applications
Abstrak:
Ceramics are an incredibly diverse family of materials ranging from the traditional ceramics of refractories and pottery to the modern-day engineering ceramics such as Al2O3, SiC, Si3N4. Ceramic materials are playing a significant role in the future structural applications. To be more specific, structural ceramic components are being considered for a broad range of practical applications as a component for aerospace, automotive, energy production, and microelectronics. The advantages of ceramic structural components (both monolithic and composite) include high strength, high stiffness, and good creep, and corrosion resistance. All of these traits are maintained even when components are placed in applications involving very high service temperatures. Considering that ceramics will be produced from abundant nonstrategic materials, it is not surprising that current research has focused on improving ceramic material properties through processing for sound design methodology. Good processing reduces the flaws and assures uniformity of the microstructure reproducibly. The emerging ceramics, particularly SiC-based material, have the potential for competing with other ceramics material or even metals in many demanding applications. This talk will discuss on the types, ceramics forming processes, reviews on the performance of SiC-based materials, and some promising prospects for the future will be also discussed.
